After several hours by bus from Panama City to Palmar Norte, we took the route to Sierpe with our friend "Manuel, the taxi driver", there we caught the boat to Drake Bay.

To get to Sierpe you can also go by bus (about 25 minutes). We chose to go by taxi because we were a bit in a rush to catch the 11.30 am boat. You can see the bus schedules below:

The departure point of the boats from Sierpe is next to the restaurant Don Jorge La Perla del Sur.

Boats's schedules:

Drake Bay to Sierpe:

- 7:15 am - $15 per person - 14:30 pm . $20 per person

Sierpe to Drake Bay:

- 11:30 am - $15 per person - 15:30 pm - $20 per person

Recommendations:

  • You must be in Sierpe 10/20 minutes before the boats departure.

  • Bring waterproof clothes for you and waterproof cover for your backpack, as well as plastic bags or waterproof protections for your electronic devices. The weather is hot but very humid.

  • Once you arrive in Drake Bay, the landing is done on the beach, there is no harbor. So be prepare to weat yourself getting out of the boat. Bring practical shoes and clothes for that.

  • Bring repellent and also money, since there is no ATM in the Drake Bay and many places don't accept credit card. The boats are paid in money as well.

  • There are restaurants and supermarkets (a bit expensive). We had taken some food supplies that we had bought on the border of Paso Canoas.

Best time to go:

We went to Drake Bay at the end of November/begining of December and, as you can see in the above video, we caught a lot of rain due to the recent presence of the Otto Hurricane. See below the best time to go to every part of Costa Rica:

Where to Stay:

There is plenty of offer to stay to stay at Drake Bay. We stayed in Cabinas Manolo and we liked it, mainly because we were in the middle of nature and the staff were super friendly and helpful.

My favorite intruder :)

Best places to see in Drake Bay:

There are lots of tours in Drake Bay. We didn't do much due to the rain but we had planned to go visit Corcovado National Park and Caño Island Biological Reserve. Even though I haven't been there, I recommend it:

- It is estimated that nowhere in the world (with a similar extent) there is such diversity of species as Corcovado National Park and it is also considered the most important nature reserve in Costa Rica. I leave you the map of the park below.

Considered one of the best diving spots in the world, Caño Island has the bluest waters of Costa Rica and it has a great flora and fauna marine variety.
